New Zealand Visa Match

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about New Zealand immigration. Always verify current rules at immigration.govt.nz.

How does the Skilled Migrant Category work?+

SMC is New Zealand’s main skilled residence visa. You need 180 points earned from age, qualifications, work experience, and employment in NZ. Points are awarded from a simplified table. You must also meet English, health, and character requirements.

What is the New Zealand Green List?+

The Green List is a fast-track residence pathway for occupations in critical shortage. If your occupation is on it (doctors, nurses, engineers, IT professionals, and more), you can apply for Straight to Residence without the SMC points test — with a qualifying job offer.

Can I work in New Zealand on a partner visa?+

Yes. If your partner is a New Zealand citizen or resident, you can apply for a Partner of a Worker/Student visa (if your partner holds a work/student visa) or a Partner-based residence visa. Both grant work rights. You must demonstrate a genuine and stable partnership.

How much money do I need to immigrate to New Zealand?+

The Investor 1 visa requires NZD $10 million over 3 years; Investor 2 requires NZD $3 million over 4 years. Skilled visa applicants generally need enough to support themselves initially (typically NZD $4,000–$20,000 depending on family size).

Is the Working Holiday Scheme available to me?+

The Working Holiday visa is for ages 18–30 (35 for some countries) from partner countries including the UK, Germany, France, Canada, Japan, and many others. It allows up to 12 months in NZ (23 for some) to travel and work.
